Paul Gallen survives match review committee while Anthony Minichiello sweats on decision

AS Anthony Minichiello sweats on a dangerous contact charge, the match review committee yesterday cleared Sharks skipper Paul Gallen.

AS Roosters officials weigh up whether to fight Anthony Minichiello's dangerous contact charge, the surprise winner with the match review committee yesterday was Sharks skipper Paul Gallen.

While Minichiello is facing a season-ending two weeks with an early plea for his high tackle on Canberra's Josh Dugan - and three weeks should he choose to fight it - Gallen also popped up on the committee's radar for an attempted headbutt on Souths' Luke Burgess.

After Burgess conceded a penalty during Saturday night's 20-7 Sharks win, an angry Gallen is seen jumping to his feet and thrusting his head at the English prop. It was only the fact Gallen missed that he was not charged.

"It was definitely flagged and we looked at it, but we were satisfied because there was no contact with the head," committee chairman Greg McCallum said.

But a headache for Roosters officials is Minichiello, whose grade three dangerous contact charge is just the second time he has landed in hot water with the committee in his 13-year career.

He was charged with grade one contrary conduct for making a tackle leading with his feet a couple of years ago.

There had been big plans to celebrate Minichiello's 250-game milestone at Allianz Stadium on Sunday against the West Tigers.
