‘Out and gone’: Dragon’s ‘brutal’ 13-second Anzac Day nightmare

St George Illawarra’s Moses Suli’s Anzac Day game was over in just 13 seconds after a sickening hit left him worse for wear.

It only took 13 seconds for Moses Suli’s Anzac Day game to be ended in brutal fashion before the Roosters romped to a 60-18 victory.

After a spine-tingling pre-game ceremony at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, the Dragons kicked off before Jared Waerea-Hargreaves unleashed a signature opening hit-up.

The Sydney Roosters enforcer smashed into three St George Illawarra defenders and Suli got on the wrong end of the Dragons sandwich just 13 seconds into the game.

Waerea-Hargreaves and Suli clashed heads in the collision and the Dragons centre was knocked out and lay dazed on the turf for several moments.

He was immediately attended to by medical staff and was taken off the field where he cut a forlorn figure sitting out the rest of the game on the bench.

Suli suffered a category one concussion and was replaced by Dragons utility Jack de Belin.

Fox League commentator Andrew Voss said: “First run, Moses Suli is out and gone. The first hit up of the match. Suli went down like a ten pin.

“How often do we see the bolt upright run and three defenders, there is no way out for the man in the middle. Suli’s Anzac Day match has lasted a mere few seconds.”

Michael Ennis added: “The courage there. Three defenders just missiling in on Hargreaves. Just accelerating towards contact. That is brutal, brutal contact there.”

St George came into the traditional clash in strong form and the underdogs opened the scoring through a try to Jayden Su’a in the fifth minute when an awkward bounce from a high kick opened up the Roosters’ defence.

Moses Suli was knocked out cold.

But the Tricolours quickly hit back through Dominic Young in the corner.

Dragons winger Zac Lomax has been in scintillating touch but he went from hero to zero when an errant offload gifted an easy try to Angus Crichton that gave the Roosters a 12-6 lead.

Roosters halfback Sam Walker caught the Dragons’ defence napping with a superb chip kick that centre Joey Manu chased down to score a try — his fourth consecutive try in Anzac Day games.

Ennis said: “Shane Flanagan will be filthy because they have given away two tries to the Roosters.”

Walker put on an absolute clinic and had a hand in everything for the Roosters, who piled on five tries in the first half to lead 30-6 after 40 minutes.

It was more of the same in the second stanza, with the Roosters piling on five more second-half tries to the Dragons’ two for a commanding 42-point triumph.
