NSW enforcer Payne Haas has injured his foot at training
The sight of a Blues enforcer with his foot packed in ice on Friday after a training incident has sent a shudder through the NSW camp.
NSW are facing a nervous wait after an injury scare to enforcer Payne Haas at training on Friday morning.
Haas was forced off the training oval at Coogee with what appeared to be a left foot injury.
The superstar prop was quickly moved in to the stands and and was elevating his foot, which was packed with ice, as his teammates trained.
Team officials confirmed Haas had rolled his ankle, but his status for next Wednesday’s Origin opener in Adelaide remains unclear.
“It’s precautionary,” Blues advisor Greg Alexander said.
“It’s an ankle sprain. He just trod on the boot of someone as he was running backwards and he’s just gone over on the ankle.
Payne Haas has suffered an ankle injury at NSW Blues training - finished training early & is currently icing the issue. Obviously very early days so no word on severity as yet, but it wouldnât be Origin week without an injury story #crisis

“He’ll be right Sunday. He’ll train on Sunday.”
Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu is on standby but the Blues are confident that Haas will be fine.
“There’s not a history. It’s just an ankle sprain that need icing at the moment,” Alexander said.
“He’s training Sunday. Today is friday. Day of rest tomorrow but he’ll be right for Sunday.”
Wests Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu is on standby for what would be his Origin debut.
