The NRLW will embark on another first for its competition after the league announced it will hold home semi-finals for the first time since its inception.

The NRL on Friday confirmed that teams who finish first and second this season will claim home ground advantage for their elimination finals on Sunday, September 24.

The decision ups the ante for the newly expanded 10-team league, which has just four rounds left before the finals series begin and only Parramatta seemingly out of contention.

The Sydney Roosters currently lead the competition on eight points, equal with reigning premiers and second-placed Newcastle, and newcomers and third-placed Canberra.

Gold Coast sit outright fourth on six points, with five teams two points behind them.

Previously, the NRLW held its semi-finals at neutral venues.
