Veteran five-eighth Kieran Foran has seemingly played his final match for the Canterbury Bulldogs, but has been tipped for a shock signing.

Foran suffered a season-ending pectoral tear during Saturday’s loss to the Gold Coast Titans in Sydney and underwent surgery earlier this week.

The 30-year-old is off-contract at the end of the season, and considering the Bulldogs signed playmaker Blake Green last month, the chances of Foran returning to Canterbury in 2021 are slim.

Despite already being linked to the Newcastle Knights and Brisbane Broncos, The Australian’s Brent Read believes the struggling Manly Sea Eagles are genuine “wildcards” to sign Foran.

“I think Kieran has settled on the Central Coast. He’s got his wife and kids up there but he’s also got kids with his former partner in Manly, so I think it would be hard for Kieran,” Read told Triple M.

“I think he would go if Brisbane came to the table and he didn’t have a choice, but I think the wildcard is Manly, I really do.

“I know they sort of downplayed it, but I know for a fact that Manly are monitoring the Kieran Foran situation. But now that the news has come out (the roster sizes) are going to stay at 30, they don’t have a lot money to spend, but Kieran’s not going to cost a lot of money and he knows that.

“I’ve spoken to (Foran) in the last few days about it, and going back to Manly is something he would love … he’s got great memories of the club; he loves Des, and I reckon that’s the one you’ve got to watch in this.

“There’s talk about Newcastle and there’s talk about Brisbane, but I think Manly are the real wildcards here, and I think they’re keeping a close eye and are very much in the mix. He’d be great for young (Josh) Schuster to learn off, he’d be perfect depth and the perfect player to play alongside Daly Cherry-Evans again.”

Foran played 147 NRL matches for the Sea Eagles before signing with the Parramatta Eels in 2016.

FIELD ELIGIBLE FOR SUPER LEAGUE MOVE

Young gun Jai Field looks set to join the Super League next season after Wigan Warriors coach Adrian Lam declared the Parramatta Eels speedster would be a “perfect” fit in the English competition.

Field required at least 11 NRL caps for a work visa, and after injuries to Mitchell Moses and Dylan Brown, the 23-year-old has officially played enough games to fly over for the Super League.

“Jai’s a player we’re looking at, he ticks the boxes for a player who could play in the halves, at fullback … when you’re looking at that, it’s easy to see he could fit into our position in one of those positions,” Lam said.

“(He) would suit Super League with his speed.

“I’ve watched him growing up — I’ve always been a fan — and he’s someone who could fit into this club perfectly.”

Field played a handful of games for the St George Illawarra Dragons before signing with Parramatta earlier this year.

13-YEAR VETERAN CONFIRMS RETIREMENT

Newcastle Knights forward Aidan Guerra has announced his retirement from the NRL after a stellar 13-year career.

The Queenslander played eight seasons with the Sydney Roosters — including a premiership victory in 2013 — before signing with the Knights in 2018.

The former State of Origin star and Australia representative revealed the bombshell news on social media.

“Hey everyone, I’ve decided that after 13 years of living my dream in the NRL I will be retiring at the end of the season,” Guerra posted on Instagram.

“It’s a decision I am very comfortable with and am excited to see what the future holds for me, Bel and our little family.

“Thank you to my friends, family and all the great people I’ve met along the way that have supported me, helped me, doubted me or influenced me in any way. I never could have dreamed of having a career like this, and I couldn’t have done it without you all.”

RAIDERS EAGER TO SECURE FAN FAVOURITES

Fan favourites Jordan Rapana and Sia Soliola are reportedly set to resign with the Canberra Raiders.

The Canberra Times reported the Raiders were eager to secure the star duo beyond the 2020 season.

“First priority will be resign Jordan and Sia,” Raiders’ head of recruitment Peter Mulholland said.

“We’ve been waiting on this, to know what the cap is and to know what the numbers are. We’re just holding on with him and Sia until we get the gazetted figures and so forth.”

Utility back Rapana has already voiced his desire to remain at Canberra, claiming he had “unfinished business” in the green jersey.

“I want to stay here, I love it here,” Rapana said.

“My wife’s from here. She’s ready to pop and I definitely believe I’ll finish up here.

“I’ve got unfinished business here as well in terms of winning a comp here.

“The boys that I’ve played here with I’ve played with for almost six or seven years. It’s the icing on the cake, Canberra being my home away from home.”

Meanwhile, the Raiders are hopeful veteran forward Soliola will return from injury in time for finals.
