NRL: Moses Suli hails Manly for saving his career as next chapter at the Dragons awaits
Moses Suli has signed a three-year deal with St George Illawarra, but he will never forget how the Manly Sea Eagles saved his career.
St George Illawarra-bound centre Moses Suli has thanked Manly for saving his career before declaring the Dragons are “going places”.
Suli officially joined the Dragons on a three-year deal on Wednesday after gaining a release from his final season at the Sea Eagles.
The explosive 23-year-old is the first addition to the Dragons‘ backline for the 2022 season.
Suli joined Manly in 2018 after having his contract terminated twice in one year by the Wests Tigers and Canterbury following repeated indiscretions.
The Tongan international resurrected his career at the Sea Eagles under coach Des Hasler, scoring 12 tries in his 63 games for the club.
But with Manly preferring Brad Parker and Morgan Harper in the centres, the enigmatic outside back opted to move on.
Suli, though, will never forget how the Sea Eagles came to his rescue when his career was on the rocks.
“To the club who picked me up when I was down,” Suli said via Twitter.
“To my Manly mates and brothers thank you for everything and for welcoming me to the club with open arms.
“To the coaching staff that helped me along the way, thank you for your time and hard work to make me the person I am today.
“Thank you to the members and the Manly fans from the bottom of my heart I can’t thank you enough for accepting me into the bird gang.”
Suli said it wasn’t easy to leave Manly, but he was excited about his future at the Dragons.
“It’s a decision that I’ve had to make, but I know it’s going to be a great one.
“Onto the next. The Dragons – we’re going places.”
Dragons general manager of football Ben Haran believes Suli can build on his budding potential.
“It‘s exciting to bring someone of Moses’s calibre to St George Illawarra,” Haran said.
“To secure Moses for the next three years after trying to sign him a couple of seasons back is certainly pleasing. Our young outside back talent pool will only benefit from the arrival of Moses.
“Moses is a strong, powerful and skilful centre. Equally important, he is keen to make an immediate mark at the Dragons.”
Suli will report for Dragons pre-season training alongside fellow recruits, Queensland Origin trio Francis Molo, Jaydn Su’A, Moses Mbye and England international George Burgess, in November.
