Rugby league legend Gorden Tallis has sensationally declared he would have bitten Shaun Johnson harder if he was in the same position as Kevin Proctor.

The Titans skipper is facing a potential long-term ban after being sent straight to the judiciary for allegedly biting the Sharks playmaker, but Tallis believes Johnson provoked Proctor.

“I’m sort of torn because I got grabbed in a headlock back in 1995 by Darren Britt and we called him ‘Biter Britt’ after that,” Tallis said on Triple M’s Sunday Sin Bin.

“I have had neck surgery and I would have bit it harder. I know it sounds bad, but I’m over players when you are on the ground and your arms are there and are pinned and someone gets your neck and starts twisting it.

“I think it is a reaction to that so Kevin Proctor has a case to answer there is no doubt about that, but I think players who come in and they are a little halfback and they start twisting your neck and it is not pleasant.”

However Paul Kent believes Proctor’s own defence on the field could come back to haunt him at the judiciary.

“Proctor complained he was being choked,” Kent said.

“Now when you look at the footage to be choked you have to have some part of the arm around your neck and it wasn’t across the neck.

“The fact that he could actually bite the arm he said was choking him shows he wasn’t being choked.”

Historically biting has been treated harshly by the judiciary with Brad Morrin copping eight weeks in 2007 and another Bulldogs player James Graham 12 weeks for his bite on Billy Slater in the 2012 Grand Final.
