Newcastle Knights captain Danny Buderus re-signs for another season
HIS team may be spiralling towards the wooden spoon but Newcastle skipper Danny Buderus is not about to bail out of a sinking ship.
HIS team may be suffering from a crisis in confidence and spiralling towards the wooden spoon after five straight defeats but Newcastle skipper Danny Buderus is not about to bail out of a sinking ship.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the veteran hooker officially agreed to a new one-year deal at the Knights last week and says he wants to do whatever he can to "help the place get back on track".
"I just didn't see this season panning out the way it has to be honest," Buderus said yesterday.
"I don't think anyone did.
"I can't remember ever being booed off after a game at home here in Newcastle like we were the other night. That's tough to take. But I'm committed to the club. Committed to the fans and the coach. We need to turn it around for them.
"Get the town talking in a positive light again."
Buderus says under-fire coach Wayne Bennett can't do any more to conjure up a recovery, believing it's up to the players to turn around a season rapidly turning into a disaster

But just like Bennett, he is at a loss to come up with any answers.
"We are working hard, doing the right things and saying the right things,"he said.
"But the belief once we step out on to the field is just not there. No one's got any confidence. The simple stuff is letting us down."
