Manly star Tom Trbojevic sent for scans after injuring his hamstring

Manly star Tom Trbojevic has a history of hamstring injuries and he has suffered another setback at training.

A tumultuous 2022 for Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic has hit another hurdle, with the fullback sent for scans after suffering another suspected hamstring injury at training.

Trbojevic, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in round 11, has battled hamstring injuries over his career, predominantly in his left leg.

But is understood he has reportedly hurt his right leg this time, the same one he injured after taking on a punter in a sprint race outside a Manly pub in the lead-up to the 2021 season.

“Manly Warringah Sea Eagles advises that fullback Tom Trbojevic did not complete today’s field session due to injury,” a club statement said.

“Tom will be sent for precautionary scans. The club will advise of any confirmed news once the results of the scans are known.”

Manly opens its 2023 campaign against the Bulldogs on March 4, and the severity of the injury will determine a timeline for Trbojevic’s return.

The 26-year-old has played just 44 games across the past four seasons due to a spate of injuries, including only seven matches in 2022 and 2020. Eighteen games in 2021 is the most he’s played in a single year since 2018.

Surely the Sea Eagles have a template by now.

The latest setback caps a horror 2022 for Trbojevic, who was caught up in the sacking of coach Des Hasler amid rumours he wanted to leave the club.

He and his brother Jake were linked to an exit before both committed their future to the club and new coach Anthony Seibold.

Now, depending on the outcome of the scans, Seibold faces the prospect of starting the season without his most important player.
