Luke Brooks is reportedly set to end his contract saga and will activate the final year of his contract with the Wests Tigers.

The star halfback will reportedly see out the deal which will see his salary rise to a staggering $1.1 million in 2023, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

It follows six months of rumours surrounding the 27-year-old with Andrew Johns admitting the Knights tried to tempt him to leave the Tigers.

Brooks also said last year he was interested in working with Johns, who has returned to the Knights as a coaching consultant.

According to recent reports, Brooks remained “unhappy” at the Tigers following their winless start to the season coming off an off-season where he twice formally asked to be released from his contract with the Tigers.

Now, Brooks appears to have changed his tune and will bank more than $1 million in 2023.

The Tigers last week denied the club was exploring options of cutting Brooks loose if a suitable deal could be struck with a rival club.

With Adam Doueihi expected to miss the first half of next season recovering from an ACL injury, the Tigers need Brooks to partner new recruit Jackson Hastings in the halves.

The Tigers finished the 2021 season sitting 13th on the ladder.

Brooks has struggled in the opening four rounds — but he is far from the only one.

Pressure is building on coach Michael Maguire.

Raiders legend Laurie Daley said last month the Tigers’ issue with Brooks is a “recipe for disaster”.

Daley was responding to a statement from The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield that Brooks “is just not happy there”.

Daley said the Tigers need to consider letting Brooks leave.

“That worries me if he’s not happy there,” Daley said of Brooks.

“If that’s the case, you’ve got to make some changes. If he’s not happy, and he’s not out there. And the playing group, if they know that, and if you’re not getting performances that are up to scratch by Luke Brooks, you’re better off letting him go.

“You’re better off saying, ‘Listen, this is not working, if you’re not happy and we’re going to get performances like this.’ Because they need to do something differently.”
