At a time when Brisbane Broncos star Tevita Pangai Jr. has been shredded by fans and disciplined by the NRL, the young forward has found an ally in Wendell Sailor.

Pangai Jr., who was fined $30,000 and stood down indefinitely by the NRL after breaching COVID-19 protocols, is yet to be officially axed by the Broncos.

But Brisbane legend Sailor has leapt to Pangai’s defence, and gone as far as to list three teams who could use him moving forward if he were to leave Brisbane.

“Look, I don’t think he’s done a great deal wrong,” Sailor said on Triple M, when asked which clubs should be chasing him.

“Obviously he’s had a couple of little hiccups.

“I just think you need to get his on-field aggression right. If you can get that right … he’s going to give you plenty.

“I reckon the Bulldogs, they’re trying to build a new culture; he’s a perfect player you can build a culture around.

“The Sharks, they need an X-factor like him as well. And also the Dragons. The Dragons need someone to replace Tyson Frizell.

“Those three clubs could do with Tevita Pangai at his best. He’s only a young forward, so the best is yet to come.”

Sailor added: “We’ve all done silly things when we’re older or younger. He’s got a big fine now, and he loves his footy, and he hasn’t done anything too illegal.”
