Spencer Leniu and Latrell Mitchell have buried the hatchet.

The two NRL stars became embroiled in a feud when Mitchell called out Leniu earlier in the year for his racial sledge towards Ezra Mam.

Leniu was ultimately handed an eight-match ban over the racial slur he delivered to the Brisbane Broncos star during the season opener in Las Vegas.

Mitchell called on the NRL to hand down a monster ban over the ugly remark.

But now the two men have put their differences aside as they came together in the NSW Blues camp ahead of the second game of the State of Origin series.

Leniu opened up and said Mitchell approached him to clear the air and state his focus was on levelling the series up at 1-1.

“I think that is a true credit to who he is as a person,” Leniu said.

The Roosters star opened up on the four-word message Mitchell said to him.

“For him just to come (in), the first thing he did was to pull me aside just to let me know, ‘I’ve got your back’”. Mitchell further added: “‘Let’s just go rip into some Queenslanders’.”

Leniu said: “It’s just a true credit to who is as a person for him to come in and speak to me like that.”

Leniu revealed he never felt any ill will towards Mitchell after he was publicly called out in the wake of the Mam incident.

“No, not at all,” Leniu said.

“He’s a really passionate person about his culture and his people. He’s a voice for so many people who don’t have one.

“He was just backing up his people, as I would mine. That’s it.

“I’ve played against him so many times and we do a lot of videos to try to stop him. To be by his side, it’s gonna be really exciting.

“He sort of just walked in and I looked at him, I was like, f***, that’s Trell Mit!

“I’ve prepared so hard to play against him because of how much he impacts the game. For him to be by your side, it gives you a lot of confidence.”

Mitchell said on Monday he’d put the incident behind him and there were no hard feelings.

“The reflection is all done, we’ve put it behind us, the NRL has dealt with it and we’ve got to move forward,” Mitchell said.

“I’ve got a job to do. Me and him will talk and just let bygones be bygones. The lessons have been learnt and we’ll go from there.”

Mitchell missed the entire 2023 series with a calf injury suffered in camp, and he made it clear on Monday that he wanted to focus on the present rather than what’s happened in the past.

“I’ve had to overcome a lot of things, and it’s made me more resilient and a bit smarter, but we go from there,” he said.

“Situations happen for a reason and I think the tides are turning.

“There’s footy there to be played, don’t get me wrong, it’s just how we do it this week and the bonds and connections we create.

“I’m already laughing at Jarome Luai’s jokes because he never takes anything seriously. That’s a positive. I’ve got Bizza (Brian To’o) on my edge so that’ll be a great connection having two larrikins.”
