Canterbury Bulldogs halfback Lachlan Lewis is reportedly set to cop a five-figure fine for allegedly trying to sell team and NRL property on eBay.

The 25-year-old was stood down by the club last Friday, after reports emerged Lewis was attempting to sell a team speaker, despite being on a $450,000 salary.

He was the subject of an NRL Integrity Unit investigation over the matter, and is expected to have his fate confirmed later today.

Channel 9 journalist Danny Weidler revealed the halfback is facing an uphill battle as he fights to save his NRL career, tweeting: “Lachlan Lewis to get significant fine. Been told around $10k. He will be told he has to apply to the NRL to register to play again”.

It’s been a season to forget for the Bulldogs, both on and off the field, with Trent Barrett’s side the unfortunate recipients of the wooden spoon this season.

The news of Lewis’ alleged incident came just a day after the NRL handed Bulldogs forward Adam Elliott a $10,000 fine, as he was kicked out of a Gold Coast restaurant after being found in the bathroom with NRLW player Millie Boyle.

Lewis, the nephew of rugby league legend Wally, also was involved in a bizarre on-field altercation with the Rabbitohs’ Cody Walker earlier in the season.

The incident occurred at halftime, and as both sides were making their way off the field, Lewis tackled Walker to the ground without warning.

It was reportedly a five-word sledge from Walker that sent Lewis into a frenzy as commentators and fans were left totally flabbergasted.

Lewis made his Bulldogs debut in 2018 against the Newcastle Knights, and has gone on to make 43 appearances for the Belmore outfit.

However, he has likely played his last game for the club after not making the starting line-up for the Bulldogs’ game against the Wests Tigers in the final round of the NRL season.
