NEXT time you want to bag a rugby league player for poor behaviour, rest assured there are far many more doing wonderful things we rarely get to hear about.

Your columnist received an email last Friday from the friend of a very special Newcastle Knights supporter who recently underwent surgery to remove a tumour from her brain.

Elissa Jack hasn’t missed a game for five years and even travels to Auckland for Warriors matches.

So I forwarded the email to coach Nathan Brown, Knights communication boss Tara White and Jarrod Mullen’s manager Steve Gillis.

Their swift reaction was just amazing.

Within 24 hours of the email arriving Mullen was visiting Elissa in St Vincents Private Hospital, having driven all the way from Newcastle on Saturday morning.

Elissa’s mum Christine couldn’t believe it.

“It was an absolutely wonderful gesture,” she said.

“Physically and emotionally Elissa was incredibly depleted after her surgery.

“You have no idea what Jarrod’s kindness has done for her.

“Please write about what an outstanding young man he is and how proud we are of the Newcastle Knights.”
