The Brisbane Broncos rose from the dead on Friday night, but two of the club’s forwards got a little too excited about the comeback victory.

Broncos forwards Jordan Riki and Matt Lodge have been issued fines by the NRL over their involvement in a melee following Brisbane’s win over Gold Coast on Friday.

Riki and Lodge were both handed grade one contrary conduct charges and have been fined $1350 and $1150, respectively.

After the final siren sounded, Titans players lifted the leg of Broncos playmaker Tyson Gamble in a tackle, causing him to lose his balance and hit the deck.

Several of Gamble’s Broncos teammates took issue with the late move, rushing to his aid and instigating a melee.

No punches were thrown and the scuffle dissolved, but through his earpiece, onfield referee Adam Gee told The Bunker that he was “thinking of putting the whole thing on report”.

Gee followed through, gesturing that the entire scuffle would be placed on report for investigation by the match review committee, much to the amusement of Fox League’s commentators.

“Adam Gee’s saying, ‘You know what, it’s been a big day, I’ve had enough here. You all deal with it’,” commentator Dan Ginnane said with a laugh.

Riki and Lodge were the only players charged over their involvement, having run into the fray late.

Both will be available for selection this weekend, as the Broncos look to record back-to-back wins for the first time since March 2020. They face their other Queensland rivals, the Cowboys, on Saturday evening.
