Joey’s rebuke exposes depths of NSW despair, indoctrination

A dispute between Andrew and Matthew Johns over State of Origin supremacy has helped expose blatant rugby league propaganda.

On the surface, last week’s spat between Matthew and Andrew Johns was like any regular brotherly dispute - just two passionate blokes disagreeing in the privacy of their own syndicated national radio show.

However, Matty’s treason and Andrew’s surprising aneurysm in response has delivered a chilling insight in to the state of New South Wales’ fragile psyche.

Not only did the public reaction illustrate how dispirited as a collective we’ve become in NSW, it also highlighted the Maroon propaganda that has infiltrated our state to be routinely piped to the masses.

For those unaware, Joey cracked it deluxe on SEN’s Morning Glory on Friday after brother Matthew spent the program blowing enough smoke up Queensland’s tailpipe to re-inflate the Hindenburg.

At one stage, the eldest Johns even agreed to Andrew’s facetious instruction to “wear his Maroon jersey” after exalting the enemy’s superiority over NSW at selections, preparation, rugby league, and pretty much everything.

It was an incident that drew major blowback, not only negative towards Matthew - aka Judas Johns, the now-husk of a once-proud Blue fallen victim to Stockholm Syndrome - but also positive for Joey for delivering some rare NSW pulse.

What has this all proved?

That if we’d all shown some of Joey’s passion earlier, maybe this widespread brainwashing may never have occurred.

As a man born in Cessnock, raised in Newcastle and monetised in Sydney, Matthew’s body technically should combust if he compliments Queensland for anything other than their climate and Ash Barty.

His sermonising was like an Israelite siding with the Palestinians or Ron Coote defecting to Easts, all traitorous acts that could easily get you killed by extremists.

But sadly, it appears he has fallen under the mythological messaging of the dreaded ‘Queensland Spirit’, a concept as indeterminate to New South Welshpeople as fuel prices, and twice as soul destroying.

Not satisfied with hypnotising our players from the 70th minute onwards, the evils of the Queensland Spirit are now infiltrating our populace - starting with our media personalities. It shows our once-great state is likely to go down the same path of Melbourne, New Zealand and The Pacific by eventually being annexed by Queensland as a catchment area.

As for Joey’s attempt to de-radicalise his brainwashed brother, this was the most stirring display of passion from a New South Welshman since he last cracked the willies when we crumbled in last year’s decider.

However, much in the same way we were emboldened by Nicho Hynes’ recent declaration of “I hate Queensland” - as if a stern word had never been uttered towards our masters before - the rocking response to Andrew’s pleas prove there’s not enough of this sterling repudiation going around.

To think the only memorable challenge on the Maroons’ mortgage on passion in recent times has come from a squat 48 year-old on medicinal cannabis says more about us than about them.

Nevertheless, there is only one thing to do.

Forget about Matthew - he’s been lost to the North now, so it’s vale to him and his banjo fingers - and put all our support behind Joey.

Just like our famed 8th Immortal, this state needs to digest some concrete and start raging against the dying light before it’s too late and our brains are consumed by Maroon fungus.

Dane Eldridge is a warped cynic yearning for the glory days of rugby league, a time when the sponges were magic and the Mondays were mad. He’s never strapped on a boot in his life, and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt.
