IS it a sign that Jarryd Hayne has edged closer to signing for an NFL team?

Late on Friday afternoon, Hayne posted an Instagram message saying he was spending his time studying kick/punt return plays on video.

And the team he was watching?

The Detroit Lions.

It is expected Hayne will sign a futures contract with the Lions once his US work visa issues have been sorted.

Detroit general manager Martin Mayhew confirmed that the team wants Hayne although that doesn’t rule out the possibility of another team swooping on the former Eels star.

However, the fact he is studying the Lions while at home in Australia suggests that he may almost be as good as locked in and ready to sign on the dotted line with Detroit.
