‘I told the truth’: Bennett’s Munster reveal after gun playmaker’s Dolphins snub
Dolphins master coach Wayne Bennett has revealed he and Cameron Munster have made peace after a fiery incident last year.
Dolphins master coach Wayne Bennett has revealed he and Cameron Munster had made peace after the Storm five-eighth snubbed the merger club.
Bennett was left red-faced when Munster announced he had signed a four-year $4 million dollar deal to remain with Melbourne.
The Dolphins were heavily courting Munster to become the face of their franchise and the playmaker looked all but certain to become their marquee man in 2024.

Munster informed the Storm of his decision and then boarded a plane with the Kangaroos squad headed to the World Cup in England.
Bennett then blew up with a furious tirade, labelling Munster’s lack of a courtesy call “ordinary” and questioning the gun playmaker’s integrity.
Speaking to The Courier Mail, Bennett has now revealed everything has been smoothed over.
“We have spoken since then and we sorted it out. It’s all good,” Bennett said.
“I told the truth at the time. He hadn’t called me, but I’ve moved on.
“It wasn’t a huge issue at the time in my eyes, but I just spoke honestly about what happened and my relationship with Cameron is fine.
“Cameron is a wonderful player and I’ve always had a good relationship with him.”
Bennett’s spray came years after the pair famously won the 2020 State of Origin series with a Maroons side that was labelled the worst in history.
When asked if he thought Munster was going to be a Dolphins player, Bennett shrugged off the question.
“I don’t know. You have to ask Cameron if he was ever close to signing, but, yes, we were interested and he decided to stay at the Storm,” he said.
“The reality is Cameron isn’t playing for the Dolphins, he is with the Storm and there’s no dramas between me and him and no issue with the club.
“I will talk to Cameron like I always have, it’s no big deal to me now.”
Speaking on NRL360 on Wednesday night, host Braith Anasta, who is also Munster’s agent, said the Queensland No.6 was “disappointed” with Bennett at the time.
“He’s on the flight over there and Wayne just loads up the semi-automatic and goes bang, he questions Cameron’s integrity - which was wrong,” Anasta said.
“Cameron was disappointed because he loves him… it was unnecessary because Cameron respects him and loves the guy and was always going to call him, he gave him 24 hours.
“It was a drama that didn’t need to be there and obviously Wayne was upset because he’d missed out on a few players.”
