Cameron Munster showed why his signature is the most sought after in rugby league this year with an absolute masterclass in the Melbourne Storm’s 34-18 win over Cronulla on Saturday night.

The star five-eighth was unstoppable from start to finish as he toyed with the Sharks in one of the best performances of his career.

The play of the game came in the first halfwhen Munster shimmied and dummied through Cronulla’s defence virtually untouched as he ran 40 metres to score a sensational try.

He followed that piece of individual brilliance with another line break to set up Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen for another four-pointer right under the posts.

Munster even produced a party trick when he nailed a short kick-off that evaded the Sharks and trickled over the sideline. Surprise surprise, Melbourne scored off the next set.

He was ably supported by Papenhuyzen, who scored 18 points with his try and kicked a perfect seven conversions and penalties from seven attempts.

Munster finished with a try, a try assist, two line breaks, five tackle breaks, 172 run metres and 221 kick metres.

NRL fans were blown away by Munster’s performance and said it proved he is still one of the best players in the game.

Sports reporter Dan Cancian tweeted: “Few finer sights than Cameron Munster in full flow. Wonderful player.”

News Corp’s Brent Read said: “Munster putting in a show. Price tag soaring.”

NRL legend Mark Geyer posted: “Munster when on the best of the best! So seductive with his show and go.”

Former sports reporter Richard Hinds said: “Holy s***. Munster threw more dummys than you’d see at a Wiggles concert during that try. Incredible.”

Journalist Steve Zemek said: “If Rugby League Week was still around, Cam Munster would be getting a 10 out of 10 tonight.”

Professional rugby player Ollie Stedman added: “Cameron Munster is a genius.”

Munster is being hotly pursued by the NRL’s newest team the Dolphins, who will join the competition next year.

It’s expected the 27-year-old will stay with the Storm but the pay packet he can demand sky-rocketed with his efforts against the Sharks.

For their part, Cronulla showed they could mix it with the best teams in the NRL but it wasn’t quite enough against the Storm.

The Sharks took it right up to the Storm, playing an attacking brand of football.

Melbourne is now second on the ladder behind the undefeated Panthers, while the Sharks remain in third after a strong start to the season.
