Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds has sent a huge scare through training after he limped off with a right foot injury after reportedly stepping on a teammate’s foot during one of the drills.

The 33-year-old has been the glue that’s held the young team together, with his calming influence a key reason why they reached last season’s grand final.

It’s the last thing the Broncos need six weeks out from their historic round one game against the Roosters in Las Vegas, with the halfback sent for precautionary scans.

“I didn’t actually see it,” teammate Xavier Willison said.

“I think it was just an ankle, but I don’t know what’s happened.

“It’s not good to see anyone go down but I don’t know.

“I didn’t see it. I was out of the drill at the time but I think it was ankle, but he might just be old.”

The Broncos need Reynolds to be fit and firing if they are to go one better in 2024, with Willison hoping to fight his way into the 17 now that Thomas Flegler and Kurt Capewell are no longer at the club.

The young forward played seven matches in 2023 and is expected to win a spot on the bench in round one.

“That’s my goal to be in the 17. I’m enjoying the middle and being in the middle,” he said after training on Monday.

“There have been a few spots (that have opened up). A few of the boys have left from last year so I’m trying to put my best foot forward.

“I bring my own attributes to the team so I’m doing what I can to do my best for the team.”
