Gold Coast Titans confident season opener against Sharks will go ahead despite doping allegations

GOLD Coast Titans chief executive David May says he is certain his team's round 1 match against Cronulla on Sunday will go ahead.

GOLD Coast Titans chief executive David May says he is certain his team's round 1 match against Cronulla on Sunday will go ahead.

May did not want to be drawn last night into the Sharks' alleged issues with Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.

However, he revealed he was confident the kick off to their Sunday game at Sharks Stadium would not be affected.

"The game will be on,'' he said via text message. "I can't comment. I think it is really for the Sharks to comment."

Like the rest of rugby league, the Titans did not last night know the full ramifications for Cronulla of the ASADA, investigation into the prevalence of drugs and organised crime in Australia sport, in past practices of the Sharks and their sports scientists.

ASADA interviewed officials and players who were at Cronulla during the short period in 2011.

One of those players is Titans prop Luke Douglas.Douglas moved to the Gold Coast at the start of last season after six years in Cronulla and played all 24 games in the 2011 season of the Sharks which has come under scrutiny from ASADA.

Douglas' manager Steve Gillis said he was confident Douglas was not under investigation.

"ASADA has not contacted him as far as I'm aware," Gillis said last night. "I have not spoken to him today but I'm fairly sure he would have called me if he something like that came up.

"There's no issue with Luke.''
