Dragons star Ben Hunt has refused to confirm whether Friday night’s 48-18 loss to the Warriors would be his last in the Red V, admitting he is “keen to sort” his contract standoff out.

Hunt was uncharacteristically quiet for the Dragons as the Warriors ran riot in Wollongong, and despite all the noise surrounding his very public wish for an early release from his contract, the 33-year-old fronted up to the team’s post-match press conference alongside interim coach Ryan Carr.

“I’m still the captain of the team and I’ll always show up for my role until that has changed,” Hunt said in response to a question from Fox League’s Matt Russell asking if he had a message for Dragons fans.

Hunt is slated to meet with the Dragons’ brass and incoming coach Shane Flanagan on Monday, and he admitted the last week hasn’t been easy.

“I’m keen to get it sorted out, I have a meeting with the club this week and we’ll get to the end of it,” Hunt said.

“I honestly don’t know (if I’ve played my last game for Dragons).

“I’ve had some tough days and some really good days. That’s the rollercoaster of rugby league, but tonight can bring you down pretty quickly.”

Hunt said he was “feeling alright” leading into the Warriors clash post-Origin.

“I’m more disappointed not turning up for Jack De Belin. It was his 200th game and he deserved better than that,” Hunt said.

“I was excited for Jack’s 200th game and getting out for that but we just tossed up a pretty embarrassing game.

“I understand the fans are going to be disappointed, we have very passionate fans but they’ll keep turning up.

Asked if there was a chance the Dragons could change his mind on leaving, Hunt didn’t give much away.

“I’m honestly not sure, mate.”
