‘Love triangle’: Ex-NRL star Michael Lichaa charged over alleged domestic incident
The Bulldogs are planning to interview a prominent player after his ex-teammate was charged over an alleged violent altercation with a woman.
Former Bulldogs hooker Michael Lichaa has been charged with domestic violence offences after an alleged altercation at a home in Sydney’s south.
Mr Lichaa, 27, was rushed to hospital with serious arm injuries after an alleged fight at his home on Connells Point Road in Connells Point.
Officers were called to the house in the early hours of Sunday morning after Mr Lichaa, a current NRL player and a woman were involved in an argument that allegedly escalated into physical violence.
The Daily Telegraph reports police are investigating whether a “love triangle” triggered the alleged incident.
Police will allege Mr Lichaa assaulted a 26-year-old woman, who was known to him.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital where he had surgery.
It has since been revealed the Bulldogs are investigating forward Adam Elliott’s alleged involvement.
In a statement, the Bulldogs said the club had been “made aware of an alleged incident involving Adam Elliott”.
“The club has reported the matter to the NRL Integrity Unit and is currently working with them,” the statement said.
“The club is not in a position to comment further at this stage.”
The Bulldogs said Mr Elliott had not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Mr Lichaa was released from hospital late on Sunday and taken to Kogarah police station where he was charged with common assault (domestic violence), destroying or damaging property (domestic violence) and stalking/intimidation causing fear of physical harm (domestic violence).
He was granted conditional bail and will appear at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.
Mr Lichaa played the last of his five seasons with the Bulldogs in 2019 after joining the club in 2015 from Cronulla.
Inquiries into the incident continue.
