Former New South Wales representative Jarryd Hayne has celebrated Parramatta’s thrilling preliminary final triumph over the North Queensland Cowboys with a series of social media posts.

On Friday evening, the Eels clinched a shock 24-20 comeback victory at Queensland Country Bank Stadium to book their spot in the NRL grand final, where they will face either the South Sydney Rabbitohs of Penrith Panthers.

Hayne, who represented the Eels 191 times between 2006 to 2018, shared footage to Instagram of honking cars and chanting Eels fans on the Parramatta streets.

The 34-year-old also predicted that Penrith would win Saturday evening’s preliminary final against the Bunnies in Sydney.

“If your (sic) not from western Sydney you wouldn’t understand,” he wrote.

“Boys don’t know what there in for this next week! Best supporter base in the country!

“Eels v Panthers GF. Be one of the best eva!

“Can we have same ref n touchies next week! Cheers!”

Hayne played in Parramatta’s 2009 grand final loss to the Melbourne Storm at ANZ Stadium.

The Eels have not won a premiership since 1986.

Last year, a jury found the former Dally-M winner guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at her Newcastle home on NRL grand final night in 2018.

He has consistently denied the allegations.

Hayne has twice faced a jury over the allegations – his first trial in Newcastle in late 2020 ended in a hung jury.

The second trial resulted in a jury returning a guilty verdict on two counts of sexual assault.

Hayne was sentenced to a jail sentence of five years and nine months.

Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal quashed the conviction and he walked free of jail on February 15.

In March, the Director of Public Prosecutions announced they would elect to try Mr Hayne a third time

Under the terms of his bail conditions assigned last April, Hayne is required to report to Merrylands Police Station each Friday between the hours of 5am and 10pm.

The trial is set to be held at Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court starting on March 6 next year.
