Former Brisbane Broncos player Josh McGuire will front a Queensland court later this month after being charged with serious offences including the alleged assault of a child.
Former Brisbane Broncos star Josh McGuire will appear in a Brisbane court later this month after being charged over alleged strangulation and assault offences against a child.
The ex-Broncos, Cowboys, Dragons, Queensland and Australia prop was arrested by Queensland Police on Tuesday.
Queensland Police said they had charged a 35-year-old Brighton man with one count each of choking/strangulation and common assault against a child.
He was arrested on Tuesday after an investigation by the Queensland Police Gateway Child Protection and Investigation Unit.
He is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 17.
McGuire played 259 games in 14 seasons in the NRL with Brisbane, North Queensland and St George Illawarra.
He played 197 games for the Broncos.
He also played 14 Origins for Queensland and Test football for Australia and Samoa.
McGuire retired in 2023 after a one-season stint with English Super League club Warrington.
