Fans all say the same thing after Jye Gray’s penalty try for Rabbitohs

The NRL Bunker found itself in the spotlight in the early stages on Saturday with fans all left saying the same thing over the call.

Humphries field goal sinks Dragons

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have toppled the St George Illawarra Dragons in a thrilling contest at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.

In what was a seesawing contest, the Rabbitohs sealed the 25-24 victory after Jamie Humphreys nailed the game-winning field goal in the final few minutes.

The Bunker was in the action inside the opening ten minutes when the Bunnies were attacking the line as Jye Gray looked to feed a ball through behind the Dragons defenders.

His kick was ricocheted which opened the door for Gray to pounce but it appeared he slipped and fumbled the ball, costing his team a clear try scoring opportunity.

Referee Ashley Klein however wasn’t so sure and sent it upstairs for review believing Gray had been impeded and a penalty try was on the cards.

Replays began to roll which showed Lachlan Illias had grabbed a handful of Gray’s collar which altered his path and ultimately sent him stumbling along the turf.

Kasey Badger wasted no time reviewing the footage before awarding the Rabbitohs the penalty try.

“I think that was a fair call,” Kevvie Walters said on Fox League.

“Ilias reached out and Sloan also made contact with Gray.”

While some fans watching on weren’t happy with the ruling, the majority of fans were happy with the ruling and praised the decision.

One wrote on X: “I reckon he scores if he doesn’t get grabbed.”

A second added: “Great decision from Kasey Badger in the bunker.”

A third wrote: “Fair call. He almost had it scooped.”

A fourth added: “I’m comfortable with that being a penalty try.”

The remainder of the first half saw tries fly in thick and fast before the Dragons went into the sheds holding the 14-12 advantage.

The Dragons then continued on and looked to have put the game beyond doubt after Kyle Flanagan and Christian Tuipulotu crossed in the early stages of the second.

Despite racing out to a 24-12 lead, it could have been even more for the Dragons if it wasn’t for some poor conversion kicking from Valentine Holmes.

Holmes finished the contest two from five which left the door open for the Rabbitohs who responded emphatically.

Tries to Cody Walker and Sean Keppie were converted by Humphreys who finished the match a perfect four from four before he sealed the win with a field goal.
