Morrison lost the federal election in May, with Labor leader Anthony Albanese becoming Australia’s 31st Prime Minister.

But Morrison was quick to shut down the speculation, saying he wasn’t angling to get a job.

“Sounds to me like just a bit of pub talk,” Morrison told The Daily Telegraph at Thursday’s Sharks-Storm match.

“Love the NRL and my Sharks. PVL (Peter V’landys) and Andrew (Abdo) have done a great job. Really enjoyed working with them as PM to get through COVID and to expand the Pacific programme.”

As per the NRL’s website, the ARLC “brings together a uniquely qualified array of business and sporting leaders who act as trustees of the game” and Morrison wants in.

Other ARLC members include Peter Beattie, Wayne Pearce, Megan Davis, Gary Weiss, Tony McGrath, Kate Jones and Alan Sullivan.

Morrison isn’t the first politician to try their hand at sporting administration, with former Treasurer Josh Frydenberg approaching the AFL about the possibility of becoming the organisation’s CEO.
