‘Everyone in the club is disappointed for him’: Luckless Tyrone Munro suffers another collarbone injury

South Sydney’s gutsy win over the Dolphins has come at a cost with news one of their brightest young stars has suffered another injury.

'Brave's one word, courageous another'

South Sydney’s gritty win over the Dolphins has been soured by yet another collarbone injury to winger Tyrone Munro who left CommBank Stadium with his right arm in a sling.

The 20-year-old has endured a wretched run of collarbone injuries, with Munro restricted to just four NRL appearances in 2024 where he also bravely played on despite dealing with family tragedy off the field.

Munro continued his incredible try-scoring streak with a first-half double in the 16-14 win but now faces another stint on the sidelines after he failed to return in the second half.

“It looks like he’s done a collarbone again,” coach Wayne Bennett said after the game.

“He’s done one on both shoulders now so he’s going to have to work on the other one that he’s injured.”

Teammate Cody Walker was shattered for his close friend who showed in the first half just how important he is to the team’s attack.

“I think everyone in the club is disappointed (for him) but he’s already positive as it is,” he said.

“Just talking with him in there (the sheds) he thinks he’s done it again, but he said he’d be right.

“He’s been through it before so he’ll get through it.”

While Munro is set to be out indefinitely, the Rabbitohs celebrated the return of strike centre Campbell Graham who missed all of 2024 with a serious sternum issue and then had a setback in pre-season when he broke his hand.

He was brilliant on the right edge, finishing the game on the wing and running for 185 metres while he also came up with a crucial late tackle to deny the Dolphins a try.

“Everyone in the four walls at Souths is really proud of him,” Walker said.

“He’s had a long road back – I think it’s 500 days since he played NRL football – but just seeing the excitement when he was running out (was awesome).

“I think he had a couple of disappointments last year when he was halfway there and halfway not, so it would have been hard for him last year.

“It’s just good to see him back out there and putting in for the team.”

There were grave concerns for the Rabbitohs this season given superstars Latrell Mitchell and Cam Murray went down at training last month, but they showed plenty of encouraging signs after a horror 2024.

Bennett has everyone in good spirits, with the master coach telling reporters they’ll have to wait until next Tuesday to see if Jamie Humphreys keeps his spot ahead of Lewis Dodd after his strong kicking game on Friday.

“I don’t necessarily think it proves anything to anyone externally, but it proves to us that we can put in a whole heap of effort and still come away with two points,” Walker said.

“There are some special efforts out there where people just put in.

“It’s proved to us and it’s given us a bit of confidence that we can do it.”
