David Taylor is tipping his Gold Coast Titans teammate Albert Kelly will have a breakout NRL season

VIDEO: ALBERT Kelly has the potential to turn his NRL lifeline at the Titans into a breakout season, according to teammate David Taylor.

ALBERT Kelly has the potential to turn his NRL lifeline at the Gold Coast Titans into a breakout season with teammate David Taylor believing he could become the halfback discovery of 2013.

Sacked from two NRL clubs for off-field misdemeanours, Kelly does not have a full-time contract at the Titans yet but a solid preseason and trial form could result in a permanent deal and the chance to fulfill his undoubted talent.

Ex-Rabbitoh Taylor witnessed first-hand just what a rookie halfback can achieve in one season, with Adam Reynolds guiding South Sydney to last year's preliminary final in his first NRL season.

Reynolds was the young star of 2012, while in 2011 it was Manly's Daly Cherry-Evans who took centre stage, showing just how quickly quality young halfbacks can make their mark in the big league.

Kelly, 21, has an advantage of previous NRL experience and Taylor said he was the one most likely to be that 2013 halfback star at the Titans after the sudden departure of Scott Prince to the Brisbane Broncos.

"I really like the way Albie has been training, he has been going really well. He's been training hard and I like the way he plays with the ball. He is really talented,'' Taylor said.

"If he can get everything right and just keep training the way he is training - I think he is battling a little injury at the moment - but if he can get over that and be injury free, I really like the way he has been training.

"Saying that all the halves are very impressive and I'd hate to be (coach John Cartwright) right now trying to pick the No.6 and No.7.

"Look at Adam Reynolds last year, everyone was asking about him and look how good he went.

"You always want to prove yourself your first year. I think with a young halves combination they're not going to have that fear of having an older person there to dominate the game - they can just take control of it themselves.''

Kelly is not guaranteed of a first grade start, he is still battling with the likes of Jordan Rankin, Beau Henry and new recruit Marmin Barba - younger brother of Dally M winner Ben - for the chance to play alongside five-eighth Aidan Sezer next season.

Young hooker Matt Srama yesterday ruled himself out of contention for halfback, confirming his desire to remain in the No.9 jumper he made his own in 2012, but said he was confident in those vying for the role.

"I have every faith in whoever is going to step up,'' Srama said.

"I see at training all the boys in the halves match - if not better - what Scott (Prince) was doing.''

The Titans yesterday unveiled new-look home and away jerseys - the first re-design since 2010 - with a ``T'' shape replacing the previous crossed sword image across the chest.
