THE Raiders are finally being recognised.
Dally M Awards flowed for Canberra after Ricky Stuart’s side exceeded all expectations this year by falling just one game short of a grand final appearance.
And the big winner was centre and skipper Jarrod Croker, who collected three gongs.
Croker was crowned NRL captain of the year, one of the finest individual awards in rugby league. He also collected the top point-scoring award and the Provan-Summons Medal, judged by the fans.
But the awards didn’t finish there for Canberra. Stuart was judged Dally M coach of the year — a remarkable effort given most pundits didn’t have Canberra in their top eight before the season started.
Stuart beat several worthy candidates, including the grand final coaches Shane Flanagan and Craig Bellamy.
And to top-off a great night for Canberra, big Joseph Leilua was named Dally M centre of the year. His award came just two days after being added to the Kangaroos’ train-on squad for Australia’s Four Nations tour of England.
