MELBOURNE captain Cameron Smith has increased his lead in the Dally M Medal race despite the Storm’s loss to Cronulla.

The Storm came up short in a grand final rematch played in horrendous conditions, falling 11-2 to the Sharks at AAMI Park.

But Smith, who made 39 tackles and booted Melbourne’s only points, picked up two Dally M votes to extend his lead at the top of the leaderboad.

Sharks skipper Paul Gallen, who ran for 191 metres and made three offloads and 34 tackles, picked up one vote to stay within striking distance.

Cameron Smith has jumped clear at the top of the Dally M leaderboard.

Meanwhile, George Burgess was mistakenly awarded two Dally M votes instead of his brother Sam by judge Peter Sterling in the Rabbitohs’ 21-20 win over the Panthers last Friday night.

Sterling intended to award Sam Burgess two votes for his impressive 13 hit-ups for 119 metres and 48 tackles however due to an issue with the Dally M voting process George received the votes incorrectly.

Sam Burgess now has a total of three Dally M votes after six rounds while George Burgess, who had five hit-ups for 52 metres, goes back to having zero Dally M votes.

The correct voting for the Panthers v Rabbitohs games is Cody Walker three votes, Sam Burgess two votes and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak one vote.
