As new Sharks recruit Dale Finucane steps into unfamiliar waters at the club, he’s already embracing the new faces and is “excited” about the untapped potential in the squad.

Finucane traded in the city life in Melbourne for the Shire, having enjoyed a six-year spell with the Storm.

The 30-year-old arrives at Shark Park with plenty of experience under his belt, as well as two NRL premierships to his name.

Finucane was also a co-captain at the Storm last season, bringing a wise head to a team filled with talent.

Despite knowing a number of players and the new coach before making the move, the bruising forward is looking forward to getting around his new teammates.

“I’ve worked with Craig (Fitzgibbon) through Country and NSW (Blues),” Finucane said.

“There’s a handful of guys that I’ve met here before and that I know, but the bulk of the playing group I hadn’t met before.

“It’s nice to get around this morning and meet a bunch of the guys.”

Finucane hasn’t let the disappointment of the way the Storm’s season fizzled out bring him down too much in the off-season, spending time in his hometown of Bega after relocating to Cronulla from his previous base.

He’s also gaining inside secrets on last season’s runners-up, bunking down with Rabbitohs star Damien Cook and his family before moving into his new place in January.

It’s unlikely Cook and Finucane are swapping game plans and tactics over the dinner table, but the new Sharks man has been keeping an eye on the side ever since his switch was confirmed.

Finucane certainly liked what he saw when watching from afar.

“Throughout the back of the year having signed with the club, I kept an interest in how they were going and what they were looking like moving forward,” Finucane said.

“I was excited by how well they were playing, and excited to see what we can do next year.”
