A trailblazing Australian media star has reportedly walked away from her role with her successor seemingly already stepping up.

Channel 7’s chief rugby league reporter Michelle Bishop has reportedly vacated her role after a trailblazing run in the position.

Bishop, who has been in the media for over 20 years, became the first woman at a commercial television station to be given the “chief rugby league reporter” title.

However, The Daily Telegraph reported that Bishop met with station executives on Wednesday before the parties agreed to an amicable split.

The report added that friends of Bishop felt she had “achieved as much as she can at Seven.”

It’s expected that Jelisa Apps, who recently joined Seven from Channel 10, will increase her role covering rugby league on Seven’s 6pm news bulletin.

Bishop will remain with Seven with a role on Sunrise, while she will also continue in her role as a rugby league reporter on SEN radio.

Bishop is a regular on Seven’s Sunrise, both breaking news and having a regular Saturday morning role alongside AFL legend Jude Bolton for the Sports Talk segment.

Bishop is also a racing reporter for the network.

On SEN, Bishop is also a regular on the SEN 1170 Sydney breakfast show Vossy and Brandy, where she presents the morning sports update.
