Star Bulldogs recruit Viliame Kikau has joined teammate Josh Addo-Carr on the long-term injury list after rupturing a pectoral muscle at training on Tuesday.

Kikau, who has missed the Dogs‘ last two games with concussion, is staring at up to 10 weeks on the sidelines with surgery required after the incident at training

The injury was confirmed by the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon.

“He left the training field yesterday with the injury and he received scans today to confirm a full rupture that will require surgery,” a club statement said.

“ He will undergo repair surgery on Monday and the Club will work with the relevant medical professionals to manage his injury post operatively.

Bulldogs football manager Phil Gould told his WWOS it was a “thunderbolt” for the club.

“That’s football... thunderbolts happen. You get a thunderbolt out of the blue,” he said.

Superstar winger Addo-Carr suffered crushing blow to his State-of-Origin ambitions when he injured his ankle in last week‘s loss to South Sydney.

He’ll also require surgery and could be sidelines for several months for the Bulldogs who sit 13th on the NRL ladder with just two wins from six games under new coach Cameron Ciraldo.

The Bulldogs have also not seen star English prop Luke Thompson this season due to a foot issue and front-rower Franklin Pele has sustained a broken arm.

The Bulldogs do get several key forwards back for Sunday’s game against Parramatta including Tevita Pangai who returns after sustaining a calf injury late in Canterbury’s pre-season campaign.
