Bankwest Stadium has had plenty of attention after two knee injuries in the Roosters’ game against the Dragons on Friday night with attention turning to the surface.

Unfortunately for Horsburgh and Eels half Mitchell Moses, who went off the field with a reported calf tear, were the casualties in Saturday’s match between Parramatta and Canberra.

Horsburgh wasn’t happy after his injury six minutes before the end of the first half and grabbed the closest Eel he could find, which happened to be Matterson.

The forward then pointed out Matterson and under a chorus of boos from the fans at the ground, pointed out a fan and had some words.

The Raiders trainer pushed him down the tunnel towards the sheds.

Steve roach said: “Horsburgh was in tears as he was coming past here with the trainer. He was giving it to what crowd there was here. Someone must have yelled something out at him, I thought he was going to jump the fence.”

Andrew Voss added that it an amazing moment “so raw”.

At halftime, Yvonne Sampson said that Horsburgh “was so irate and emotional that he flipped the bird to the fans”.

Post-match, Fox League spoke to Matterson who said he was surprised by the moment.

“I don’t know, they blew the penalty but I didn’t know what the penalty was for,” he said. “It was an emotional game, both teams wore their hearts on their sleeve and I’m very proud of the boys, good win.”

Pressed further, Matterson said it was all part of the game.

“I was pretty shocked, I just thought it was rugby league, that’s what happens, firey boys come together, hope he’s OK,” he added.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was asked about Horsburgh as well but didn’t have a comment having not spoken to his young charge.

Horsburgh was seen in the shed at halftime with his foot in a bucket of ice and the NRL Physio said it could have been a few different injuries.

A fellow forward, Roach praised the performance of Horsburgh before the injury after putting in some big shots.

“I’ve got to give a rap to Horsburgh he copped it early in the game, and he got up and said righto, let’s go,” said Roach.

“You would except this kind of game when sixth are playing third. its been a brutal affair in the first half.”
