Adam Elliott has agreed to leave the Bulldogs, the club confirmed on Friday night.

The star forward had already been stood down for the rest of the 2021 season and was issued a breach notice after he was reportedly asked to leave a Gold Coast venue when discovered by security in the men’s bathroom with NRLW star Millie Boyle.

Boyle said last month she shared an innocent kiss with Elliott and believes the scandal has been blown out of proportion.

Elliott was reportedly escorted out of the venue without a shirt on.

The club was waiting for an NRL Integrity Unit investigation to conclude before deciding on any further punishment towards Elliott.

He was last month stood down and received a $10,000 fine by the league for bringing the game into disrepute.

The club confirmed in a statement released on Friday night Elliott has agreed to leave the club by mutual agreement following a recent meeting.

It means his contract, reported to be worth $1 million for the next two seasons, has been torn up.

However, The Daily Telegraph reports Elliott and the club have negotiated a secret $100,000 severance package as part of Elliott’s farewell.

The payment was not disclosed in the club statement.

He is now desperately searching for a new club, hoping a rival will give him one final chance.

Bulldogs Chief Executive, Aaron Warburton, said in the statement: “Adam and the Bulldogs have decided it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.

“The Club is committed to supporting Adam during this time. We wish Adam all the best for the future.”

Boyle, who plays for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRLW was issued with a warning for her role in the incident and will be given education and training regarding the obligations of players in public.

The action taken against Elliott has been much more severe as a result of his prior indiscretions.

Canterbury is believed to be under considerable salary cap pressure after signing the likes of Josh Addo-Carr, Tevita Pangai Jr, Matt Burton, Paul Vaughan this year and Elliott’s manager David Riolo went public last month with his fears Elliott could be sacked to conveniently help ease the club’s cap pressure.

Elliott has undergone alcohol counselling this year after an incident in the pre-season involving former teammate Michael Lichaa and Lichaa’s fiancee. Lichaa reportedly caught the back-rower kissing his partner.

In 2018, Elliott was fined $25,000 when he and teammate Asipeli Fine were charged with wilful and obscene exposure during the Bulldogs’ Mad Monday celebrations.

After suffering a season-ending shoulder injury midway through 2020, Elliott has returned to the fray this year and retained his regular spot in the Bulldogs’ best 17. He has made 18 appearances this season and played his 100th NRL game against the Warriors in round 22.
