The NRL has been rocked by a drugs scandal yet again after a Bulldogs forward was charged with possession of a prohibited substance.

The rugby league world has been rocked with yet another alleged drugs scandal, as Canterbury Bulldogs forward Ofahiki Ogden was charged with possession of a prohibited substance on Saturday night.

News of Ogden’s charge has caused unnecessary drama for the NRL, as a small outbreak of confirmed Covid cases in Queensland’s southeast threatened to derail the grand final.

“We’re aware that Ofahiki was charged with possession of an illegal substance and the matter is currently with the integrity unit,” Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton told News Corp.

“We can’t make any comment other than that.”

Ogden’s contract with the Bulldogs finishes up on November 1.

“After speaking to him, it is clear he is absolutely ashamed and embarrassed with what has occurred,” Ogden’s manager Luke Lombardi told News Corp.

“Anybody who knows him, knows that he embodies what it is to be an athlete and this truly is against his character.”

It has been a hellish week for the NRL in terms of drug scandals, as two high-profile drug-related incidents have left a stain on the game.

Warriors youngster Reece Walsh was arrested by Queensland Police in Surfers Paradise last weekend, and also admitted to being in possession of cocaine.

On Monday, footage of a number of Melbourne Storm stars — including Brandon Smith and Cameron Munster — were filmed partying with a white powder, with the video being released just hours before the Dally M Awards.
