Broncos legend Gorden Tallis has ripped into the Brisbane players that complained about Kevin Walters’ heated spray following this week’s shocking loss to the Parramatta Eels.

The Broncos were thrashed 53-6 by the Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday evening to fall out of the top eight with one week remaining before the final series.

The under-fire side has lost four of their last five matches, conceding 113 points in their two most recent matches against the Melbourne Storm and Eels.

And enough was enough for Walters, with footage emerging of the Brisbane coach unloading on his team in the sheds.

“Parramatta were outstanding, but once against the opposition were awful,” Queensland great Paul Vautin told Channel 9.

“Last week, 60 by Melbourne, it was a training gallop for them, and tonight 50 by Parramatta. The Broncos are broken, I can’t possibly see them beating the Dragons down there next week.

“Kevvie’s going off a bit there, showing a bit of emotion. I think he’s telling them this is not what Broncos players do. I’m not saying there was give up in them, they’re just awful at the moment.”

According to rugby league reporter Ben Dobbin, several Broncos players were “upset” with how Walters spoke to the group after the loss, revealing the coach called his team “soft” during the spray.

“I don’t understand why players would be upset,” Dobbin told Triple M.

“Kevvie is passionate, he thought that they should have been better, a couple of choice words after the match. Who goes and is upset about the way that they were spoken to?”

And Tallis was not impressed with the revelation, arguing Walters “had a right” to blast his players and calling on the Broncos coach to drop the footballers that complained.

“Whoever those two are that whinged and they should just write a line through them,” Tallis said.

“If I found out and I was at that organisation, I don’t want to play with that guy.

“If I got called soft, my response is I’m going to prove him wrong. And if you want me to stand in front of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves going mad and racing at me, that takes courage.

“So if someone goes you’re soft, how is he going to stand in front of Jared Waerea- Hargreaves?”

Bulldogs great James Graham continued: “You’ve got to face the music. You’ve got to face the truth and Kevvie is within his rights to give the team a spray.

“A minimum of two weeks on the spin, they’ve been embarrassing and they’ve let the team down. They’ve let the town down and you know, they should be playing finals

“That (calling them soft) is designed to get a response and the response shouldn’t be I’m going to go and whinge about it. The response should be I’m going to stand up next week.”

Walters fronted the media after the debilitating Round 24 contest, and appeared to be out of ideas in the late season capitulation.

“Terrible – we didn’t start very well and finished poorly as well,” he said.

“It’s the NRL, every week is the same. We want our team to perform well and we are not performing well.

“I don’t have too many answers at the moment, to be honest. We are aware of what is going on, but being aware of it and stopping it are two different things.

“I’m not going to make any excuses, there just hasn’t been good enough.

“We’ve got to fix our defence more than anything, and our attitude hasn’t been where it needs to be at this time of the year.

“We’ve got 10 days until next Saturday against the Dragons to fix it and get it right.”

Brisbane will next face the Dragons at Kogarah Oval on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 5.30pm AEST.
