Brisbane pair Norman and Parker don't train but no panic

INJURED Brisbane duo Corey Norman and Corey Parker are racing the clock to prove their fitness for Monday night's home clash against Parramatta.

BRISBANE coach Anthony Griffin insists Corey Norman's groin complaint is not serious as the five-eighth and lock Corey Parker race the clock to prove their fitness for Monday night's home clash against Parramatta.

The Broncos have minimised Norman's training load in recent weeks and the cottonwool approach continued yesterday when the rookie playmaker failed to appear at Red Hill, instead doing pool work to ease the strain on a niggling groin injury.

Parker (strained medial ligament) also failed to train, but is refusing to give up hope of facing the Eels and plans to test his knee by running today.

Griffin played down the severity of Norman's groin problem.

"It's nothing too serious," the Broncos coach said. "Our medical staff can measure whether a player can develop osteitis pubis and Corey is a bit outside the normal range at the moment, so we're taking it easy with him."

Petero Civoniceva said the playing group held a candid meeting with coach Griffin to address the side's attitude ahead of the Eels clash.

"There's no particular focus on any particular player, right across the board there needs to be an attitude change," he said.

Parker, who played his 250th NRL game in a 14-10 loss to the Titans last Friday, is no stranger to unlikely comebacks.

The Maroons ironman made a swift return from thumb ligament damage against the Tigers in round 6 and is determined to lock the scrum against the Eels.

"I'll run (today), see how it pulls up and make a decision from there," Parker said.

Meanwhile Ricky Stuart is set to be unveiled as Parramatta's new coach today. The NSW Origin coach, who has coached Sydney Roosters and Cronulla, succeeds Stephen Kearney.
