FORMER NSW halfback Peter Wallace has backed moves for the Broncos to play more Sunday matches, admitting an afternoon kick-off is advantageous to their brand of attacking football.

The Broncos travel to Sydney to face the Roosters in their second consecutive Sunday game after hosting a rare weekend fixture with last week's 50-24 drubbing of the Knights at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane have come under fire from Sydney-based NRL club bosses for receiving a surfeit of Friday night matches, but Wallace said they would relish the chance to play more afternoon games.

"It's good playing Friday but I think Sunday is the best day to play footy," Wallace said.

"We usually play Fridays but I actually enjoyed playing footy on a Sunday (against Newcastle last week), we were able to play nice and fast which suits our team.

"It's just a good feel. It's a day off for people, it's a family day and the conditions really help.

"The weather is good up here (in Brisbane) . . . but it seems that Friday is our day."

Having snapped a three-match losing streak against the Knights, the Broncos face a daunting road trip without Origin stars Justin Hodges, Petero Civoniceva, Ben Hannant, Sam Thaiday and Matt Gillett.

Their absence opens the door for highly-rated winger Lachlan Maranta, who makes his NRL debut at the SFS.

The grandson of Brisbane's foundation chairman Barry, 20-year-old Maranta is also the son of former Broncos and Parramatta winger Brett Plowman and has impressed at Norths Devils in the Intrust Super Cup.

Wallace said he had fully recovered from his recent groin troubles and pledged to lead the way with his Origin experience against a Roosters side missing NSW halfback Mitchell Pearce.

"I'm reasonably happy with my form, but I think I can step up another level," Wallace said.

"I play a bit more of a leadership role with the Origin guys away so it's important I keep the boys on the right track.

"My groin is good now, I'm 100 per cent with it.

"I probably rushed it a bit coming back, I don't think I took long enough doing rehab and I went straight back into full training.

"I just didn't give it enough time to fully heal but last time around I took my time and the bye weekend really helped me. I pulled up great after the Newcastle game and hopefully there's no problems for the rest of the year."

Wallace said the Broncos were far from satisfied with their caning of the Knights after conceding 24 points in a lacklustre 30-minute period.

"Defensively, we have a few areas to fix up," he said.

"We took note of where we went wrong last week.

"Our attack has been good all year but it's just that 10 or 15 minutes where we are letting ourselves down at the moment."
