Kevvie breaks big news on Payne Haas

Broncos hooker Billy Walters has quit his role with Triple M after one of the station’s hosts took a swipe at his father and coach Kevin.

The Courier Mail reported the Walters family are furious at Triple M after the breakfast show was critical of Brisbane’s players and Kevin’s coaching ability.

Greg Martin, Dan Anstey and Margaux Parker, the wife of former Broncos skipper Corey, host the show in Brisbane.

The Broncos hooker has an NRL-approved third-party deal with Triple M and had become a regular and popular contributor to the station discussing his views and opinions on all things rugby league.

But that was before Martin, who played nine tests for the Wallabies, was scathing of the Broncos as he delivered some choice words after Brisbane’s Round 21, 41-16 shellacking to the Bulldogs.

The Broncos dummy-half hasn’t appeared on the show since.

“These poncy rock stars that are at the Broncos, they need a kick up the a**,” Martin said on air.

“But no-one is prepared to give it to them because Kevvie isn’t tough enough on people.

“No-one is saying this because the media is littered with Kevin’s friends, OK. He is a great bloke, he is funny, fun and everything.

“I played league until I was 16. I have half an idea but geez there appears to be troubles in terms of coaching at the Broncos.

“Social media has become a bigger part of the Broncos than defensive efforts,” he continued.

“You need someone to tell you some tough news. The Broncos need to put their foot down.

“The other day I jokingly called for Kevvie’s head but something has to change ... whether they get someone else.

“I don’t like confrontation myself so I make everything a laugh. That’s what Kevvie does ... it’s all fun and games, well it’s not fun and games now.

“Someone has to be tough and strong and the Broncos don’t have anyone to do it. I bet if Ben Ikin (former Broncos football boss) was there ... I bet he would step in.”

It is understood Walters’ wife, Narelle, was so taken back by the attack that she called Margaux to vent her disappointment.

Triple M hopes Walters will return and confirmed captain Adam Reynolds would fill in for the 30-year-old.

“Adam Reynolds is taking over from Billy Walters on the breakfast slot for the remainder of the season,” a Triple M spokesperson said.

“Billy was a great addition to Triple M Breakfast this year and the guys loved having him on.

“Reyno has been a regular on Triple M for the last two years and Marto, Margaux and Dan are looking forward to having the skipper on for the rest of the season.”

‘Kevvie’ was a former co-host of Triple M’s Dead Set Legends show and it is unknown if he will appear on the network.
