Australian Tim Smith cleared of broken leg in Super League pre-season match

WAKEFIELD halfback Tim Smith has been cleared of a broken leg but will have to wait to find out the extent of the injury he sustained at the weekend.

WAKEFIELD halfback Tim Smith has been cleared of a broken leg but will have to wait to discover the extent of the injury he sustained in the Jon Wilkin testimonial match at St Helens at the weekend.

The former Parramatta and Cronulla NRL player went off just 15 minutes into the Super League pre-season match, which the Wildcats lost 42-12, and was taken to hospital for X-rays amid fears of a break.

"There is no break but we are not yet sure of the extent of the injury," said a Wildcats spokesman.

Wakefield coach Richard Agar will be hoping for positive news for Smith, who was the club's player of the year in his first season with them in 2012 and was rewarded with a new two-year contract.

Agar is already resigned to being without Kyle Wood for the start of the new season after the playmaker underwent surgery for a detached retina following a training-ground accident.

The Wildcats' first Super League game is against Bradford on February 3.
