Anthony Seibold’s brutally honest Manly take as DCE reveals major frustration

Manly coach Anthony Seibold did not mince his words in the wake of his club’s horror outing against Cronulla on Sunday.

Has Manly's form gone backwards?

Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold has lamented his team’s performance against the Sharks, admitting “we killed ourselves” with poor ball control.

Manly slumped to a 30-14 defeat to the Sharks, which was the Sea Eagles’ fourth loss from their last five games.

Cronulla led 14-0 at halftime, but the stage was set for a grandstand finish when Manly centre Tolutau Koula scored a double in the space of seven minutes in the second half, to help the home side level the game at 14-all with just 19 minutes remaining.

But the Sharks then went on a scoring spree of their own, crossing for tries three times in the last 15 minutes of the game to close out the victory.

Seibold gave an honest assessment of how his team played in the post-game press conference.

“Back end of the game, we just killed ourselves with errors. Across the whole game, we killed ourselves with errors,” Seibold said.

“We turned over the footy down our end of the field and they were good enough to capitalise a number of times.

“We put a lot of pressure on ourselves with field position. We just weren’t good enough to get the job done tonight.

“We need to be better, there’s no doubt about it.

“Our defence dropped off at the back end of the game and we didn’t get another chance. It’s obviously frustrating for us internally and our supporters as well.”

Skipper Daly Cherry-Evans was frustrated that Manly only played well in a 20-minute burst after halftime, but not for the rest of the game.

“It was a very big contrast tonight between the two ways we played,” Cherry-Evans said.

“A lot of that was the pressure we put on ourselves through forcing errors and ill-discipline when we were defending.”
