Angus Crichton wins Wally Lewis Medal for State of Origin 2024 series

Angus Crichton helped the Blues as they etched their name in the State of Origin record books as they clinched a series against the odds.

Angus Crichton has won the Wally Lewis Medal for the 2024 State of Origin series.

The Sydney Roosters second rower was at his formidable best throughout the series and helped the NSW Blues secure a history win on Wednesday night at Suncorp Stadium.

While Crichton didn’t produce the flashy plays like his teammates, he continually put his body on the line as the Blues etched their name into the record books with a 14-4 win in enemy territory.

“I would like to say thank you very much to Queensland. Great series,” Crichton said.

“Thank you to all the coaches for believing in us and giving us a chance to come up here and do something special.

“Thank you to my family, my beautiful partner Chloe and thank you to my teammates. Boys, it’s comin’ home.”

Fans watchong on were loving the fact it was Crichton who had been handed the player of the series award.

The League Scene wrote on X: “Is there a better comeback story in the NRL than Angus Crichton. 2023 was a horror year as he battled off-field issues. Started the year in reserve grade, battling for his future. Tonight, he wins the Wally Lewis Medal. Crichton surely is the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year.”

One user wrote: “So happy for Angus Crichton. If any young fellas are looking for a role model in this world, that’s your man right there. Absolute f***ing gangster to come back from where he’s been!”

Another used added: “Hell of a story for Angus Crichton. Well deserved player of the series too.”
