South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds has reportedly told his Rabbitohs teammates where he will play in the 2022 season and beyond.

Adam Reynolds will reportedly join the Brisbane Broncos next year, with the star halfback already informing his South Sydney teammates about the decision.

As revealed by The Courier Mail’s Peter Badel, Reynolds will sign a three-year deal with the Broncos worth approximately $2.25 million by the end of the week.

The Cronulla Sharks were also in the hunt for the 30-year-old’s signature, reportedly offering him a mammoth $2.4 million, three-year contract.

But after consulting Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett, Reynolds is understood to have rejected Cronulla’s monster offer.

The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield tweeted: “Sharks missing out on Adam Reynolds is proof John Morris wasn’t the issue in attracting quality players. This comes back to lack of footy smarts in senior management and on board.”

According to The Australian’s Brent Read, the Broncos will make an official announcement on Reynolds tomorrow.

Reynolds has played 214 games for the Rabbitohs since making his NRL debut in 2012, winning a premiership with the club in 2014.

Although the No. 7 wanted to stay at Redfern, South Sydney reportedly were not willing to offer a deal longer than one year.

Rabbitohs teammate Damien Cook told media on Monday: “I have had a chat with him where I’ve asked him to stay, he’s a big reason why I came to the club in the first place, because he was the halfback.

“Is it a cruel part of our game where you can’t keep everyone? It is. But we’ll see what happens.”

Brisbane is still licking its wounds after seeing gun teenager Reece Walsh walk to the Warriors and Tom Dearden sign with North Queensland, but Reynolds would prove the first major coup for new coach Kevin Walters.

Channel 10 reporter Veronica Eggleton tweeted: “Beyond his talent and leadership, Adam Reynolds’ recruitment is the win Brisbane needed. Turns the tide on the mass exodus from Red Hill.”

NewsCorp’s Steve Zemek posted: “Reynolds is a massive, massive signing for Brisbane. Exactly what they need. Will give them composure, winning attitude. Drive standards. Big get. Can’t believe South Sydney are letting him go.”

Although Reynolds has lived in Sydney his entire life, manager Steve Gillis says moving interstate was not a concern for the father-of-four.

“Not once has Adam said to me I don’t want to move to Queensland, it’s not a barrier at all for him,” Gillis told The Courier Mail.

“People just assume because he has four kids, he won’t want to move, but Adam is open to moving.

“Adam wants the security of a longer-term deal certainly. There’s no point signing one-year deals if you plan on playing for three or four more years.”

Reynolds suffered a thumb injury against the Canberra Raiders in round eight, but will return for Magic Round this weekend.

The Rabbitohs will face Cronulla at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 5.30pm AEST.
