Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds has been medicabbed off the field inside the opening 20 minutes of their clash again the Storm in Melbourne.

The Broncos were 6-0 down but as the side was being awarded a penalty try, Reynolds, who tried to ground the ball, was left in trouble as he lay motionless on the ground.

It was during a controversial penalty try where the Storm’s Harry Grant was deemed to have pushed the Broncos’ Herbie Farnworth when he was chasing a ball through to the line.

The ball came off Farnworth’s knee and went through the line, but when the Broncos’ centre was pushed away from the ball, Reynolds went to try and ground the ball.

But Reynolds not only grounded it on the deadball line, but ended up in an ugly position where it appeared his head had contacted the ground.

“He has not moved Reynolds, he’s been face down throughout," Dan Ginnane said on Fox League.

The Broncos medical staff almost immediately called for the stretcher.

“His night’s over,” Ginnane said.

Michael Ennis added: “And Brisbane’s with it, that’s how important he is.”

Reynolds was quickly loaded onto the medicab and taken from the field on the medicab.

There were concerns on field and Fox League’s Lara Pitt reported Reynolds said that he had lost some feeling in his hands and feet.

However he has been dealing with a neck injury throughout the season and the feeling had returned.

He was being assessed in the sheds but he will not return to the match.

Ginnane said it was “fantastic news, hopefully it’s just a burner

He has since been cleared of any serious neck injury.

Post-match, Kevin Walters said Reynolds was still groggy but had also hurt his shoulder.

“I wouldn’t think he’ll be playing next week,” he admitted.

While it’s good news for the Broncos, there were plenty of questions about the penalty try.

Ginnane questioned whether Grant had done anything wrong but the Bunker official ruled Farnworth would have won the race and was illegally pushed in the back.

At half-time, Greg Alexander said that he thought it was “a tough call”.

“He was doing his best to get to the ball, there was no push there,” he said.

“He pushed away from Grant as they were both chasing. Grant tries to hurdle Farnworth who is trying to get to his feet himself.

“I don’t know, I think it’s tough.”

The Broncos weren’t the only ones who had a injury concern with Nelson Asofa-Solomona suffering a rib cartilage injury.

But he may be back in the second half.

At halftime, the score was 10-all in an entertaining clash but without their star halfback, the Storm ran away with a 24-16 win.
