Jaguars tear into Steelers after the tweet heard ‘round the NFL

THE JAGUARS coach made sure everyone of his players saw this tweet — which left the Steelers turning on each other.

WORD began to spread at the Jaguars’ team breakfast Sunday morning.

“Did you see the tweet?” one player asked another and then another. Then Jacksonville coach Doug Marrone showed anyone on the team who had not seen it.

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell had taken to Twitter just before midnight on Saturday and showed his thumbs are not as skilled as his legs.

“I love round 2’s … we’ll have two round 2’s in back to back weeks …,” Bell wrote, referring to rematches with the Jaguars on Sunday and an AFC Championship game rematch with the Patriots next week.

Yeah ... about that.

Bell’s tweet lit a fire in the Jaguars and they upset the Steelers 45-42 in an AFC divisional playoff game at Heinz Field.

It was the second victory over the Steelers the Jaguars scored this season, after a 30-9 regular-season thumping in Week Five. Now it is the Jaguars who will travel to Gillette Stadium to face the Patriots with a trip to Super Bowl LII on the line.

Bell’s tweet was just one indication to the Jaguars that the Steelers were overlooking them and focusing on Tom Brady and the Patriots.

“I was wondering why they were so confident,” Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey said. “We stomped their ass last time and we knew we was going to do the same this time.”

Before the teams took the field, Steelers safety Mike Mitchell was chirping at the Jaguars in the tunnel leading to the field. That came days after Sports Illustrated quoted Mitchell talking about how the Steelers would beat the Patriots. It was like the Steelers dismissed their early-season loss to the Jaguars.

“It was like they had dementia, amnesia or Alzheimer’s or something,” linebacker Myles Jack said. “I don’t know if they just forgot and thought that didn’t happen but it happened and it happened again. It was strange, man.”

Steelers guard David DeCastro didn’t mince words following the crushing loss, going after his teammates for looking too far ahead.

“(The Jaguars) were ready to go, they were mad, they were angry, they had something to prove and they did it,” DeCastro told Pittsburgh’s Post-Gazette.

“It’s embarrassing. It really is, man,” the offensive lineman continued. “It just blows my mind. They beat us 30-9, we played like crap and we want to talk about New England! You don’t need to give a team like that more bulletin-board material.”

As for the Jaguars, they continue to fill their bulletin board.

“We use it all. It is all bulletin-board information,” said Jacksonville safety Barry Church. “I mean, you go out there and you talk stuff. That’s what you’re going to do, you’re going to poke the bear and the bear is going to come after you. … We sent them home. I hope they are happy.”

“We were quiet. … Real people are quiet and then they throw the first punch,” said defensive end Dante Fowler.
