Netball Australia has praised its partnership with Foxtel after West Coast Fever’s droughtbreaking Grand Final win concluded a successful first season in partnership with the broadcaster.

The Fever put on an absolute clinic to defeat the Melbourne Vixens 70-59 in front of a record crowd of 13,908 at Perth’s RAC Arena.

Goal attack Sasha Glasgow was named Grand Final MVP, while powerhouse goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler was awarded her fourth Stacey Marinkovich medal as the team’s MVP across the season.

An average audience of 170,000 watched the Grand Final on Foxtel and streaming platforms as the Fever claimed their first national league title in their 25-year history.

The match was available on Kayo Freebies, with 67 per cent of the total audience tuning in via streaming.

Fox Sports and Kayo Sports provided live and on-demand coverage of all 60 matches with never-before-seen camera angles, access to players and coaches, along with analysis and post-game celebrations.

The broadcaster also increased exposure of the sport, Super Netball and its players via a dedicated Fox Netball platform, which included two weekly analysis shows Centre Circle and Pivot.

“The 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season, particularly Sunday’s Grand Final, is going to be talked about for years to come,” Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan said.

“Netball is a tier one sport in Australia and through our partnership with the Foxtel Group, we have further engaged our existing fan base and reached new audiences in 2022.

“To have had a record number of people at Perth’s RAC Arena on Grand Final day, as well as the largest broadcast audience all season, is a testament to netball fans across the country.

“It is great to see netball rebounding at elite and community levels after the impacts of the global pandemic, which shows the real strength of our sport.

“We are excited by the future of our partnership with the Foxtel Group, from grassroots and community participation, right through the world’s best netball competition — the Suncorp Super Netball — and the Origin Australian Diamonds.

Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany said: “The electric atmosphere of the Grand Final on Sunday was the perfect end to our first season with Netball Australia.

“To help grow audiences right around Australia, we have brought Netball to the masses via Kayo Freebies every Sunday, and netball has benefited from the growth of Kayo over the past six months — in particular throughout finals — which is a strong indicator for the future.”

Many of the Fever and Vixens players who featured in the Super Netball Grand Final will join forces in the Australian Diamonds squad ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham later this month.

Foxtel’s coverage of netball will continue when the Diamonds play test matches against the New Zealand Ferns and England Roses in October.

The Diamonds will travel to New Zealand for the opening two matches of the Constellation Cup before hosting the Silver Ferns in Australia on Wednesday 19 October and Sunday 23 October.

They will then take on England in a three-match series on Wednesday 26 October, Sunday 30 October and Thursday 3 November.

All scheduled matches on the international fixture will be live and exclusive on Fox Sports, available on Foxtel and Kayo Freebies.
