Collingwood have pulled off an upset 65-62 win over the West Coast Fever in their last ever Super Netball game in a fairytale finish for the club.

Last month the Magpies said they would no longer fund the club’s netball program, meaning this would be Collingwood’s last ever season in Super Netball since joining the competition in 2017.

They have endured a tough season and have been out of finals contention for many weeks, but somehow the Magpies closed the chapter on their club’s history in fitting fashion.

Collingwood took it right up to the Fever at Launceston’s Silverdome and managed to restrict goal attack Sasha Glasgow to just one Super Shot for the game.

Both teams were neck and neck in the first half but the Magpies blew the game open with a 19-12 third quarter.

The Fever fought back in the final term to make a game of it but Collingwood held on for the three-point win — handing Fever their biggest losing margin of the season.

Fox Netball’s Bianca Chatfield described the result as a “fairytale finish” for the Magpies.

Madi Browne simply added: “Wow, wow, wow.”

Collingwood coach Nicole Richardson was delighted when her side secured a famous win.

The victory was extra significant given it was veteran Collingwood midcourter Ash Brazill’s last ever Super Netball game.

Brazill had announced this season would be her last, although she could still play a pivotal role in Australia’s Netball World Cup campaign next month if she is named in the Diamonds’ squad.

Brazill was acknowledged by the Fever and gave a post-game speech before being embraced by her teammates and family.

Earlier on Saturday, the Adelaide Thunderbirds snapped the NSW Swifts’ nine-game winning streak with a 60-57 win.

It means the order of the top four is set and the match-ups for the first week of Super Netball finals are locked in.

The Swifts will take on the Thunderbirds in the major semi-final, while the Fever will face the Melbourne Vixens in the minor semi-final.
