‘Best ever’: Chaz Mostert breaks Bathurst 1000 lap record in Top 10 Shootout
There’s a new king of the mountain after Chaz Mostert set a blistering record in the Top 10 Shootout for the Bathurst 1000.
Chaz Mostert will start from pole position for tomorrow’s Bathurst 1000 after breaking the lap record during Saturday’s Top 10 Shootout.
Mostert drove his Walkinshaw Andretti United Holden Commodore ZB around the Mount Panorama circuit in 2:03.373 seconds to beat the previous fastest lap time of 2:03.481sec set by Scott McLaughlin in 2019.

“I don’t even know what words (to say),” he said after his record-breaking lap.
“It was just so fun.”
Supercars legend Mark Skaife told Mostert: “That was one of the best laps I’ve ever seen you put on, to which the driver replied: “Oh man that was so much fun, woo!”
Commentator Neil Crompton said: “That is the best ever number we’ve seen in a Top 10 shootout! That is a staggering lap by Chaz Mostert.”
“This lap was beyond supreme … an absolutely outstanding lap,” Skaife added.
“That is unbelievable. Fastest lap ever in qualifying at this venue! That car has been a rocket all weekend.”
Mostert’s co-driver Lee Holdsworth said with Mostert driving the house down they are looking in top shape for Sunday.
“Tomorrow’s looking good,” he said.
“He’s doing an unbelievable job, I’m just along for the ride.”
“I don’t want to jinx it. It’s been a pretty fantastic car since we rolled out of the gate. It’s just a pleasure to drive.”

“That lap was just so enjoyable to drive,” Mostert told Fox Sports.
“The guys us have done a great job. The track got better and better. That car was just so fun to drive.
“I can’t really put this lap into words. When you’ve got such a good car underneath you, it kind of becomes effortless.”
Mostert, who sports a bleached mohawk, joked that his diet wasn’t holding him back for speed in the car.
“This is probably the fattest I’ve been for any Bathurst 1000,” he said.
“So there might be a little bit in that. I do like my dim sims, I do like my pies and I tell you what, if there’s pace in that I’ll go and get a bit more tonight.”
The 29-year-old won the Bathurst 1000 in 2014 and has been consistently in the top three in every session this weekend.
Mostert and Holdsworth will go in as the favourites to win the 161-lap race, which gets underway at 12.15pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
